Joey Giardello and Dick Tiger fought each other for the fourth and final time on this date in 1965. Tiger won the bout and evened their series at two wins each. More importantly, Tiger won back the world middleweight title that Giardello had taken from him almost two years before in Atlantic City. All four fights between these two old pros went the distance, with each winning a 10-round non-title bout and a 15-round championship bout. Giardello fought only four more times, retiring two years later. Tiger lost this title in his next defense (vs. Emile Griffith), but moved up in weight and became light-heavyweight champion in 1966. |
