This year, the Briscoe Awards moves to an all new time slot during the first quarter of the year. Philly Boxing History will present the 11th Annual Briscoe Awards on March 25, 2018, 1:00 – 4:00 PM. The reason for the move is to close the time gap that usually occurs between the end of the fight year and the day we honor the winners. In past years, that gap might stretch for more than a year! This delay caused confusion for many and hurt the overall spirit of the Awards. With our new time frame in March, the celebration will come just a few months after the end of the year. On the day we give out the awards, the accomplishments of the winners will be fresh in the minds of the boxing fans, the fighters, and everyone else. Making this change comes with a touch of nervousness. The Briscoe Awards has been on a ten-year roll, and any sudden adjustment like this has the chance of diminishing the momentum that we’ve built. However, I believe that in the long run, the new time frame will ultimately make the Briscoe Awards better. 2018 is the transition year. Therefore, our 11th annual event will be quite different from those in recent years. For one year only, we will move the Briscoe Awards away from Xfinity Live! in South Philly. In an attempt to spare many of our loyal sponsors that make the Briscoe Awards possible, and still wanting to make this year’s event special, The 11th Annual Briscoe Awards will return to our original venue – the VBA Club in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia (2733 E. Clearfield St., Philadelphia, 19134). This venue change will help to keep costs lower and will also provide a throwback feel to the Awards. A handful of our regular sponsors will still participate in the Awards by offering their support, and again helping to make the event possible. To further cover the costs of the event, a limited number of $20 tickets for the Briscoe Awards will be made available to the public. The ticket price includes admission, a program, food, draft beer, wine, and soft drinks. No tickets will be available at the door.
