In the fourth Briscoe Awards photo contest, a portrait of heavyweight prospect Sonny Conto entitled "Strength", taken by Darryl Cobb Jr. was named the "2019 Photo of the Year" by a panel of independent judges. This is the second time in four years that Cobb snapped the chosen photo. In all, seven photographers submitted their work for the competition, which is intended to spotlight the fine work by the artists who consistently capture the local fight scene. The other participating photographers included Jano Cohen (who placed second), Daniel Cork (third place), Ray Bailey, Daryl Bughman, Matt Heasley and Kenny Ludwig. For his win, Cobb will receive a Briscoe Medal for the "2019 Photo of the Year", later this year at one of the yet-to-be-scheduled Briscoe Awards events.
