STREET TO BE RENAMED
FOR TYRONE CLAYTON

There will be a street re-naming ceremony on Saturday, November 13, 2021, 11:30 AM, on the corner of North 10th Street and Chew Avenue in Philadelphia. The street will be re-named in honor of G. Tyrone Clayton, a local South Philly boxer who was killed in a plane crash on March 14, 1980.

Clayton was one of 77 people killed when a plane went down near Warsaw, Poland while en route to an international amateur boxing event. Along with Clayton, Germantown's Lonnie Young and twelve other amateur boxers were killed with eight staff members of the boxing team.

Lonnie Young was previously honored when a Germantown rec center (The Lonnie Young Recreation Center was named for him. On Saturday, Tyrone Clayton gets his tribute with the street re-naming. The effort was driven by Cherelle L. Parker, 9th District Councilmember, Majority Leader.

Everyone is welcome to attend, but face masks are required for all those that do.
