Photographer Darryl Cobb Jr.'s portrait of Philadelphia fighter Christopher Burgos has been named the "2021 Photo of the Year" by the Briscoe Awards. Cobb will take home a Briscoe Medal at the annual event on July 24, 2022, at Rivers Casino. This is Cobb's third win in this category.
The top photo depicted Burgos after his "2021 Philly Fight of the Year" victory over Gerardo Martinez, at South Philly's Live! Casino. Cobb titled the photo "The Price of Victory", and shows an exhausted Burgos marked up, but victorious after his thrilling bout, which took place on November 18, 2022. This year, the photo was chosen by an independent panel of judges.
The runner-up in the annual contest was Kenny Ludwig's portrait of promoter Joe Hand Jr. sitting at ringside during the same fight card at Live! Casino last November. Ludwig's photo is titled, "Fifty Years Outside the Ropes".
Both the Briscoe Awards and the 2022 PA Boxing Hall of Fame inductions will be presented at the same event on July 24, 2022, at Rivers Casino. Tickets for the event are on sale and can be purchased at BriscoeAwards.com or by calling 609-377-6413. |
