In his first headlining bout, Philly junior welterweight Thyler Williams made short work of his opponent, Gonzalo Dallera, Saturday night (May 7) at the 2300 Arena. The fight was the top bout on a seriously trimmed card promoted by Jeter Promotions. Suffering from numerous last-minute fallouts during fight week, the show wound up offering only three official bouts and two exhibitions.

Fighting in his first main event, Williams stepped right out and battered Dallera. Just before the telling blow, the fighters clashed heads which produced a slash over Thyler's eye. After the butt, Dallera backed to the ropes before Williams unleashed a hard right that flattened the fighter from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Referee Dave Braslow counted Dallera out and the fight was over in less than two minutes (1:59). The fight was scheduled for six rounds.

Williams, a product of the Rock Ministries Gym in the Kensington section, improved to 7-0, with 5 KOs and needed seven stitches to close his cut. Dallera fell to 10-16, 8 KOs. It was the fifteenth times he'd been stopped.

EDWARDS EDGES LEE

In the semi-final bout, Rickey Edwards, of Patterson, NJ, won a six-round majority decision over Newark, NJ's Michael Lee in their welterweight fight. Edwards snapped a three-bout losing streak to improve his record to 13-5, 3 KOs. Lee's defeat ended a six-fight winning streak, and his record slid to 8-2, 6 KOs. The referee was Shawn Clark. Bernard Bruni, Tony Lundy, and Eric Marlinski judged the fight.

HUTCHERSON DEFEATS CANADA

Maryland featherweight Jaqeem Hutcherson won a four-round unanimous decision over Printice Canada of St. Louis. All three judges, Bernard Bruni, Tony Lundy, and Eric Marlinski scored the bout for Hutcherson, who left with a 5-1 record. Canada's record fell to 2-5-1, 2 KOs. The referee was Shawn Clark.

Maryland-based firm Jeter Promotions usually stages three or four shows each year in Philadelphia and is expected to return in the summer.
