CARTO GOES THE DISTANCE

Popular local Christian Carto continued his comeback Saturday night in the main event at the 2300 Arena. The seven-fight show was promoted by Marshall Kauffman's Kings Promotions. The bout was Carto's third since suffering his first professional defeat in 2019. After two quick knockouts over the past year, Carto put in some rounds against Hector Andres Sosa of Buenos Aires. The fight went the full eight rounds and Carto won the unanimous decision of the official judges by scores of 79-73, 78-74, and 77-75. Based on the scores, it appears Carto had the edge and also got in some work against Sosa. The Argentine landed his own shots, especially along the ropes, but Carto remained in control and earned the victory. The referee was Eric Dali.

The win by Carto improved his record to 20-1, with 13 KOs. He weighed 121 pounds, the highest of his career. So perhaps, he's edging his was out of the bantamweight class and into junior featherweight. Sosa, fighting in the USA for the first time, weighed  in the USA, Sosa, 120.75, lost for the second time in his career and left 14-2, 8 KOs.




OBERLTON STILL UNDEFEATED
Light heavyweight Atif Oberlton extended his undefeated streak to 7-0 in the co-feature bout. Coming off the only fight he won by decision, Oberlton started a new knockout streak against Christian Thomas of Michigan. The scheduled six-rounder ended in round two with Atif winning by TKO. The time was 2:24. Shawn Clark was the referee. Oberlton, 7-0, 6 KOs, weighed 174.75. Thomas, 177 pounds, lost for the first time and moves on with a record of 11-1, 9 KOs.


ROBLES STOPS CONQUEST
Staten Island junior welterweight Kenny Robles scored a fourth-round TKO of Philly's Jerome Conquest in a scheduled eight-round bout. Robles, 141 pounds, scored the fourth knockout of his 10-2 career. Conquest made through round four, but the fight was stopped before the fifth.  Southpaw Conquest, who lost for the third straight time, weighed 139.5 pounds. His record slid to 11-8, 1 KO. The referee was Eric Dali.


WRIGHT WINS BY KNOCKOUT
Junior Wright of Evanston, IL scored a third-round knockout over Colby Madison of Baltimore in a heavyweight bout scheduled for six rounds. Wright dropped Madison along the ropes and referee Eric Dali counted him out at 27 seconds of round three. Wright improved to 194-1, 16 KOs, while Madison fell to 10-4-2, 6 KOs. Wright weighed 219.5 pounds; Madison was 236.25 pounds.


GOMEZ STOPS ALBRIGHT
Mexican Roberto Gomez issued Philly's Quadir Albright the first defeat of his professional career in their scheduled six-round welterweight fight. The time of referee Shawn Clark's stoppage was 1:59. Gomez, 143.5 pounds, won the bout by knockout in round five. He remains undefeated at 5-0, with all of his wins coming by knockout. Albright, 144.75 pounds, now 6-1, 6 KOs, saw his first winning streak come to an end.


HUTCHINSON DEFEATS JOHNSON

Reading welterweight Kashon Hutchinson, 148 pounds, scored a close six-round decision over Philly's Rasheed Johnson. All three judges scored the bout 58-56 (or 4-2 in rounds) in Hutchinson's favor. Hutchinson improved to 10-5, 2 KOs. Johnson, also 148 pounds, slid to 8-5, 3 KOs. The referee was Shawn Clark.


MARTIN WINS BY DECISION

Philadelphia junior middleweight James Martin won a six-round unanimous decision over Colombian Alejandro Munera in the opening fight of the evening. All three judges scored the bout a 60-54 shutout for Martin. The win pushed Martin's record to 9-3-1. Munera lost for the fifth straight time and fell below .500 at 6-7-4, 5 KOs. Martin weighed 153.5 pounds; Munera was 149.75 pounds. The referee was Eric Dali.


CASTILLO FEATURED IN EXHIBITION

In a three-round flyweight exhibition, Nesly Castillo squared off with Jaclyn McTamney. Castillo was scheduled to make her professional debut on the card, but her opponent fell out before fight night.
