Junior Wright scored a devastating first round stoppage over Brian Howard in the headline bout of an entertaining three-bout card at the Clarion Hotel in Essington, Pennsylvania. The show was promoted by Rodney Rice’s RDR Promotions.

Both heavyweights set a fast pace by throwing hard power shots from the opening bell. Wright then uncorked a hard left hook that landed squarely on Howard’s chin. The punch put Howard flat on his back and knocked him out cold. The fight was waved off without a count by referee Eric Dali. The official time was 2:17.

With the win, Wright, of Philadelphia by way of Evanston, IL, scored his second consecutive highlight-reel knockout (he knocked out Colby Madison in three rounds last October). Wright improved his record to 20-4-1, with 17 knockouts. Howard, of Philadelphia, fell to 15-6, 12 KOs.

DAWSON TAKES DECISION

Philly welterweight Mark Dawson won a six-round unanimous decision over gritty upset-specialist Javier Mayoral in a welterweight contest. Dawson won by scores of 60-54 (Bernard Bruni), 60-53 (Robert Rubnitz), and 59-55 (Tony Lundy) to raise his record to 11-1-1, 4 KOs. Mayoral, of New Orleans, is 5-3-1, 1 KO.

BROWN RETURNS

Philadelphian Rasheen Brown shook off a 15-month layoff (and first career loss) to win a six-round unanimous decision over Texan Eric Manriquez in a featherweight bout. Brown won by shutout scores of 60-54 on all three cards (Bernard Bruni, Robert Rubnitz, and Tony Lundy). He is now 12-1, 7 KOs. Manriquez, of Houston, is 7-16-1, 3 KOs.

RDR Promotions returns on May 27, 2023 with a show at the Newtown Athletic Center in Newtown Township, PA.
