Promoter Alex Barbosa returned to the 2300 Arena with his R&B Promotions to stage "Philly Fight Night VI." The card consisted of eight bouts, one six-rounder and seven four-rounders, with referee Shawn Clark working every fight on this night. The spotlight fight featured Philly middleweight DeWayne Williams against Quaseem Carter of Newark, NJ. Williams won the fight by majority decision, with two point deductions against Carter figuring heavily in the outcome. In rounds four and six, referee Shawn Clark took a point from Carter for spitting out his mouthpiece. The lost points cost Carter the fight. Judges Dewey LaRosa and and Robert Rubnitz had Williams leading after six rounds (58-54 and 57-55 respecively), while Tony Lundy scored the bout a draw (57-57). Had the points not been taken, the fight would have ended in a split decision draw. Williams improved his record to 5-8-1, 4 KOs. Carter lost for the second time and went home 5-2, 4 KOs. Richard Johnson of Philadelphia remained undefeated (3-0, 2 KOs) with a third-round TKO of fellow-Philadelphian Jamar Leach (1-2) in a junior middleweight bout scheduled for four rounds. Johnson won the first two rounds before stopping Leach at 2:09 of round three. In a battle between two female bantamweights both making their pro debut, Shera Mae Patricio, Waianee, HI, scored a third-round knockout of Princeton, NJ's Ayeshia Green. Patricio knocked Green down in round one and then finished her off two rounds later, dropping her for a ten-round in the third. The official time was 1:22. Heavyweight Daniel Bean, Old Bridge, NJ, issued Phuiladelphian Jesse Hayward his first professional loss in their four-round fight. Bean won by unanimous decision with all three judges, Dewey LaRosa, Tony Lundy, and Marc Werlinsky all scoring the fight 39-37 in Bean's favor. Bean improved to 4-2, 2 KOs. Five of his six bouts occurred at the 2300 Arena. Hayward slid to 2-1. Coatesville, PA lightweight Noah Norman overcame a severe cut to his left eye to remain udefeated (3-0, 2 KOs) in his four-rounder against southpaw Benji Gomez of Oxnard, CA. Norman won the fight by unanimous decision; Tony Lundy and Robert Rubnitz scored the fight 38-36 while Dewey LaRosa had it a 40-36 shutout. Gomez remained winless at 0-3. Debuting junior bantamweight Lia Lewandowski won her first pro bout by unanimous decision over Amarilis Adorno of Vega Baja, PR. All three judges, Lundy, Rubnitz, and Werlinsky had the bout 40-36 for Lewandowski. Adorno fell to 1-14 with the loss. Lefty lightweight Juan Marrero, Philadelphia, extended his winning streak to 6-0, 5 KOs with a four-round unanimous decision over Ezra Rabin, Oakland, CA (1-7, 1 KO). Dewey LaRosa, Robert Rubnitz, and Marc Werlinsky scored the bout a 40-36 shutout. It was Rabin's seventh straight loss after winning his 2021 debut. The evening started with a four-round bout between two debuting junior welterweights. Dominican Omayki Torres, now fighting out of Perth Amboy, NJ, won by majority decision against Anibal Mercado of Newtown, PA. Judge Tony Luny scored the fight even, 38-38. However, he was overruled by Dewey LaRosa and Marc Werlinsky who saw the fight in Torres' favor, 39-37. R&B Promotions is expected to return to Philadelphia in 2025 for another "Philly FIght Night" event. DATE: September 14, 2024
