KITTEN HAYWARD EXHIBIT
TO OPEN BRISCOE AWARDS

The 3rd Annual Briscoe Awards are slated for Monday evening, October 4th. This year the party to celebrate the best of Philly Boxing will also include an exhibit honoring one of Philly's all-time best: the one and only Stanley "Kitten" Hayward. He was a rough and tumble warrior inside the ring and an impeccably dressed ladies man and horse race handicapper outside it. He posted big wins over the likes of Curtis Cokes, Emile Griffith, Dick Turner, and Bennie Briscoe during his 18 year career, and fought for the jr. middleweight title.

On Monday, we will present posters, photos and other items to celebrate the "Man Named Kitten". In the photo above, Hayward casts his fist in plaster, in preparation for the event.

Briscoe Awards will go to Rogers Mtagwa (2009 Philly Fighter of the Year) and Teon Kennedy and Francisco Rodriguez (2009 Philly Fight of the Year). Also, amateur star Miguel Cartagena will receive the Everett Brothers Award. Hayward, Mtagwa, Kennedy, Cartagena, and the family of Rodriguez (who died from injuries in the Kennedy fight) will all be in attendance Monday.

The Briscoe Awards will be held at the VBA Club (2733 E. Clearfield Street, Philadelphia 19134 - in the Port Richmond Section) and are open to the public. Start time is 6:00 PM with the awards handed out at 8:00 PM.  For more information, please call John at 609-377-6413, or e-mail us via this web site.
