PhillyBoxingHistory.com announced today that the 8th Annual Briscoe Awards, an annual celebration of the Philadelphia fight scene, will move to an exciting new venue this year. XFINITY Live! Philadelphia, the central hub of Philly’s sports stadiums, becomes the new home of the Briscoe Awards on Sunday, October 18, 2015, 1-4pm.

The Briscoe Awards, named after legendary middleweight Bennie Briscoe, honors the biggest accomplishments of the Philadelphia fight year and brings together the local community to celebrate everything Philly boxing.

This free event is open to the public and is regularly attended by the award winners, their families, past and present boxers, fight fans, and other boxing people. Everyone is welcome.

Bryant Jennings will take home the “2014 Philly Fighter of the Year” award in October. Jennings won two bouts in 2014, and in the process, earned a shot at the world heavyweight title. Jennings has won Briscoe Awards in the past, but this is his first as “Fighter of the Year”.

The thrilling USBA heavyweight title brawl between Steve Cunningham and Amir Mansour was named the “2014 Philly Fight of the Year”, and both combatants will receive their Briscoe Awards at the October 18th event.

Cunningham will also receive the “Performance of the Year” award for the same fight, and Amir Mansour will be acknowledged for the “KO of the Year”, for his knockout of Fred Kassi.

Other winners include:

  • Ray Robinson – Prospect of the Year

  • Milton Santiago – Rookie of the Year

  • Joey Dawejko – Breakout Fighter of the Year

  • Darmani Rock – Amateur of the Year

  • Taneal Goyco – Upset of the Year

  • Jaron Ennis – Everett Brothers Award

  • Kennedy Cunningham – Honorary Briscoe Medal

The Briscoe Awards at XFINITY Live! is a free event, open to the public. It will be held in the Victory Beer Hall at XFINITY Live! Philadelphia (1100 Pattison Avenue, South Philly), beginning at 1:00 pm, on Sunday October 18, 2015.

The Briscoe Awards party is paid for by generous sponsors and advertisers, who support the idea of honoring the best achievements of our local boxing scene. Because of these supporters, the event remains free to the public. We hope everyone will come this year.

Since there is no admission fee, please consider placing an ad in the program book to help us cover the costs.
