PHILLY BOXING HISTORY - October 29, 2015 |

||||
What can only be termed a boxing extravaganza is to be held at the Must Fight Boxing Club at 504 Edgemont Avenue in Chester, PA. The facility in which the boxing club is housed, whose origins go back to at least the 1930s, served as the home for the filming of CREED, the latest in the ROCKY series movies. Dan Mullarkey, from Delaware County, popular former professional fighter and the current owner of the club, has accepted an offer to host an event at Must Fight to celebrate the premiere of this most recent of the ROCKY films. Dan feels that this will be an entertaining way to showcase his boxing club as well as his current stable of young fighters. The event is being planned to coincide with the late-November opening of the film. You will be able to get a first-hand look at where Sylvester Stallone and the other actors who were part of the film called home while the gym was being used to represent an old-fashioned boxing venue. The gym will also serve to illustrate the rich history that boxing has had in Delaware County - a history that can be traced back to the 19th century. Music, a buffet lunch and three 3-round boxing sparring bouts are among the events being planned for the day. Proceeds from the event will go toward scholarship grants to young amateur fighters from Delaware County, giving them a chance to learn the boxing skills needed to be able to participate in upcoming Golden Glove Championship bouts. If you would like to help sponsor this event, contact Jim Vankoski at 610-909-4919 or email him at vankoski21 @comcast.net or Dan Mullarkey at 267-205-2632 of danielfmullarkey @yahoo.com.
