Upper Darby super middleweight Brandon Robinson, 11-2, 8 KOs, returns to action tonight at the Sugar House Casino, in an 8-rounder against PA southpaw Lawrence Blakey, 5-12-2, 2 KOs. The bout is part of a ten fight show by Marshall Kauffman's Kings Promotions. In his last outing, December 7, 2018, Robinson lost a tough one to Kalvin Henderson of Arkansas. In the bout, Robinson's eyes were closed, and he was stopped in round seven. It was his first loss since his pro debut in 2016. The Henderson-Robinson fight was a thrilling battle and was named the "2018 Philly Fight of the Year", via fan voting. Robinson looked strong and sharp in the gym last week, sparring several rounds with local light heavyweight Benny Sinakin, at the Marian Anderson Rec Center in South Philly. Robinson, 30, sporting a new shorter do, looked lean and ready for his comeback fight. Last night, he weighed in at a svelte 166.6 pounds. Against Blakey, also 30, B-Rob meets the typical comeback opponent. Blakey is more experienced by six fights, but has been on a losing streak, and probably does not have the tools to score an upset. He's dropped his last five, and only won once and drew twice, in his last eleven. So, the fight will allow Robinson to ease back into the swing, and boost his confidence after his rough outing last time. In two weeks, Robinson will pick up his trophy at the Briscoe Awards (April 14 at Xfinity Live). Hopefully there, with Robinson, Henderson, and promoter Marshall Kauffman all in attendance at the Briscoe Awards, they will announce a rematch of 2018's best fight. The main event tonight features three-time Olympian Anvar Yunusov of Tajikistan, 6-0, 3 KOs, against Carlos Colon, of Puerto Rico, 5-1, 3 KOs, in an 8-round junior lightweight fight. Yunusov is now under the Kings Promotions banner and fights out of Reading, PA. Eight additional bouts round out the card. In the co-feature, Erik Spring takes on Terrance Williams, in an 8-round match of junior middleweights. Also on the show is rising welterweight Mark Dawson, 5-0-1, 3 KOs, in a 6-rounder, and Anthony Mercado vs. Andres Navarro in an 8-round junior welterweight fight. The first bout begins at 7:00 PM. |
