Philly's James "No Games" Martin faced popular, rising prospect Vito Mielnicki Jr. on April 17th in Los Angeles. The fight was part of a nationally televised PBC on FOX broadcast. Martin was brought in as an opponent for then-undefeated Mielnicki (8-0, 5 KOs), but after eight close rounds, the Philadelphian scored the biggest win of his young career. Using his strong jab and aggressive style, Martin took the majority decision on the official cards to improve his record to 7-2. The result was a total surprise and the biggest upset by any Philly fighter during 2021. Martin, the son of recently-deceased, Philly light heavyweight contender Jerry Martin, is promoted by Marshall Kauffman's King Promotions. This is Martin's first Briscoe Award. Congratulations James!  Martin and the rest of the Briscoe Award winners will receive their trophies later this year.

More Briscoe Award winners will be announced over the next several days. The Briscoe Awards event will be held in the Spring, location and date to be announced in the near future.
